FAQ

What is a chemotype ?
The chemotype enables the different chemical components of a same plant variety to be determined. A chemotype is a form of classification that indicates the molecule principally contained in an Essential Oil. This classification is necessary when an Essential Oil that comes from a same botanical variety has important variations in its chemical composition, according to the place where or the period during which it was harvested.

For example:
Common thyme (Thymus vulgaris) :

  • Common thyme with thymol (Thymus vulgaris thymoliferum) indicates that this Essential Oil comes from Common Thyme and mainly contains thymol.
  • Common thyme with thuyanol-4 (Thymus vulgaris thuyanoliferum) indicates that this Essential Oil comes from Common Thyme and mainly contains thuyanol-4.

The properties of Essential Oils are the direct result of their composition.

From what age can Essential Oils be used ?
Only experienced therapists should use Essential Oils on young children. However, “soft” (non-irritant) Essential Oils in the form of massage lotion (for example, diluted to 5 or 10% in Sanomulse) can be used from the age of five.
